Biofuel Certification Or Standards

EDM number 178 in 2007-08, proposed by Rudi Vis on 08/11/2007.
Categorised under the topics of Energy, Energy conservation and Renewable energy.

That this House welcomes the candour of the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership, who have admitted that the proposed biofuel sustainability or carbon savings certification or standards will not account for the multiple displaced effects of diverting land from food production to biofuels, which include higher food prices, deforestation, human and wildlife displacement and major land-use change emissions; and notes with interest a detailed review of the prospects for biofuel certification and the lessons from timber certification, in the recent OECD briefing paper on biofuels.
