Iraqi Referendum On Occupation

EDM number 1748 in 2007-08, proposed by Harry Cohen on 10/06/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces, Constitution, Human rights, International politics and government and Iraq.

That this House notes the claim of the occupying powers in Iraq to be introducing democracy; further notes that democracy and occupation are almost certainly incompatible; takes account of reports that the US is planning a contract with the present Iraqi government to continue its occupation indefinitely beyond the end of the year when the UN mandate runs out; and considers that the demand of Moqtada al-Sadr's group and many others in Iraq for a referendum of all the Iraqi people on that contract and on continuing US occupation should be acceded to.

This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
