TOUCAN COMMUNICATIONS AND HON. MEMBERS' CORRESPONDENCE
EDM number 1704 in 2007-08, proposed by Norman Baker on 05/06/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Data protection, Freedom of information and Members of Parliament.
That this House notes with considerable concern the refusal of Toucan Communications to respond to hon. Members acting on behalf of their constituents, contrary to established practice under the Data Protection Act 1998 and the specific recognition given to the role of hon. Members in this regard; views as unacceptable the fact that Toucan has still refused to respond to the hon. Member for Lewes even after advice had been provided to the company by the Information Commissioner's Office; and suggests that the approach adopted by Toucan in the case of the particular constituent from South Chailey was not motivated by a desire to protect personal information, but rather to prevent disclosure of its failure to provide a proper service and its desire to avoid being held accountable for its unacceptably poor treatment of a constituent.
