BBC And Birmingham
EDM number 1701 in 2007-08, proposed by Lynne Jones on 04/06/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Arts, Broadcasting, Cultural heritage and Media.
That this House notes the BBC's Charter contains a core commitment to producing programmes in the nations and regions; supports the BBC's move to Salford's Media City as evidence of that commitment; notes with concern, however, the threat of closure hanging over the Selly Oak Drama Village site at Birmingham University, home of the popular Doctors programme; believes this would be a severe blow to jobs and television production in the West Midlands; further believes that any run-down of the Drama Village would be a massive setback for the burgeoning television production skills base in the region; firmly believes the site represents excellent value for money; and looks forward to the BBC management guaranteeing the future of Birmingham's Drama Village at the earliest opportunity.
