Eurovision Song Contest

EDM number 1648 in 2007-08, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 02/06/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Arts, Broadcasting and Performing arts.

That this House notes that the 2008 Eurovision song contest marked another occasion in which musical talent was put behind national interest; recognises that millions of pounds are spent on holding the event with taxpayers' money being used to screen another farcical event in which votes cast have little relation to the quality of the music, but are determined by relationships between competing nations; and calls on the BBC to withdraw from contributing to the event and save licence-payers' money until a genuine competition is re-introduced.

This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
