Halifax Town Fc
EDM number 1600 in 2007-08, proposed by Linda Riordan on 19/05/2008.

That this House notes with sadness that Halifax Town Football Club has all but folded as a professional club after 97 years in existence; pays tribute to those who have loyally supported the club over the years; further notes that the football club has left fans with some cherished memories including a surprising 1980 FA Cup Third Round victory over First Division Manchester City, the 1993 FA Cup First Round win over West Bromwich Albion, and the magnificent Conference Championship winning season in 1998 where the club regained its league status; acknowledges that off the field problems have led to the club amounting a considerable debt; states that there is far too much money at the top end of football and due to the lack of redistribution to lower league clubs, many more teams could fold before the authorities do something to address the situation; thanks everyone associated with the club for doing their best to try and salvage the situation over the last few weeks; and further pays tribute to the work of the loyal fans associated with Halifax Town Supporters Trust and wishes them every success in their attempt to resurrect the football club and keep the Halifax Town name alive by re-forming and joining a lower league in time for the 2008-09 season.
