Election Literature

EDM number 1440 in 2007-08, proposed by Anne Main on 28/04/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Elections, Ethnic groups and Planning.

That this House deplores the production of misleading election literature; notes and regrets the deeply misleading political leaflets issued by Labour District Council candidate Chris Flynn in London Colney, Hertfordshire, entitled Tory Gypsy Sites Still To Be Decided; further notes the erroneous assertion within the leaflet that the East of England Regional Assembly is Tory controlled; notes that the proposal from the East of England Regional Assembly for the number of pitches for each district was proposed by a Liberal Democrat councillor and seconded by a Labour councillor; draws attention to the debate on the subject on 20th June 2007 where the concerns of local people about the proposals were described by the Minister as `groundless prejudice'; is saddended that Labour Council candidates seek to disassociate themselves from the Government's national policy to provide additional gypsy and traveller pitches under the Regional Spatial Strategy RSS Single Issue Review on Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation; and urges the Government not to impose additional gypsy and traveller sites in Hertfordshire over and above that which is considered necessary by local people and their elected representatives.
