English National Anthem For The Rugby League World Cup

EDM number 1429 in 2007-08, proposed by Greg Mulholland on 28/04/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Sports.

That this House notes with anticipation the forthcoming Rugby League World Cup 2008 in October in Australia; further notes that the home nations will be competing and Scotland, Wales and Ireland will use their own national anthems; calls upon England to adopt an English national anthem and not use the United Kingdom national anthem which should be used only when the home nations come together and play as a Great Britain team; believes that rugby league, as a progressive sport, should be prepared to lead on this and hopes that England Rugby League fans will be given the chance to choose an appropriate English anthem; and looks forward to a great competition and wishes the England team, as well as Scotland, Wales and Ireland, every success in the competition.
