Anniversary Of The Animal Welfare Act 2006

EDM number 1421 in 2007-08, proposed by David Drew on 24/04/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Animal welfare.

That this House celebrates the anniversary of the Animal Welfare Act 2006, which came into force in England on 6th April 2007 and in Wales on 28th March 2007; congratulates the RSPCA and other animal welfare organisations on the successful campaign for the Act; commends the Government and all the main political parties for their support for the legislation; but notes with disappointment the slow progress made in drawing up Regulations and Codes under the Act; and calls on the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to dedicate the resources and attention needed to ensure that the Animal Welfare Act is properly implemented, fully protecting animals from harm.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
