Future Policy On Issues Arising From Budget Decisions
EDM number 1390 in 2007-08, proposed by David Anderson on 22/04/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Incomes and poverty and Taxation.
That this House continues to have real concerns about the impact of the removal of the 10 pence income tax band on many low paid people; believes that urgent action must be taken to resolve this issue; acknowledges that recent statements from the Prime Minister and Chancellor show that they accept the need to act; accepts that a long-term solution needs to be put in place whilst ensuring that those who are losing out as a result of the changes are recompensed as fully and as quickly as possible; praises the work of the Treasury Select Committee in identifying the scale of the problems that must be addressed; and calls on the Chancellor and Treasury team to work closely with the Treasury Select Committee to produce a robust and timely resolution to an act that has, unfortunately, penalised people unnecessarily.
This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs.
