Daylight Saving And Symmetrical Clock Changes

EDM number 1256 in 2007-08, proposed by Angus MacNeil on 25/03/2008.

That this House notes that the last Sunday of March heralds the beginning of BST and daylight saving; notes that the period of winter time when clocks are moved to GMT is dramatically asymmetrical either side of midwinter, with daylight saving ending last autumn 53 days before midwinter, but that the clocks do not go forward this spring until 101 days after midwinter; and therefore calls for efforts to be made to achieve symmetry of length of daylight either side of midwinter when the clocks change and to investigate the possibility of reducing the period of clock winter from an aggregate of 154 days to a shorter period of perhaps 80 to 100 days which could be symmetrical either side of midwinter's day.

This motion has been signed by a total of 22 MPs.
