Assistance Following Limavady Seagate Closure Announcement

EDM number 121 in 2007-08, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 07/11/2007.
Categorised under the topics of Manufacturing industries and Unemployment.

That this House recognises the scale of problems that will occur in the East Londonderry constituency following the announcement by Seagate of the closure of their Limavady factory in the second half of 2008 with the loss of over 900 jobs; and calls upon Invest Northern Ireland and the Department for Employment and Learning in Northern Ireland to ensure that every possible step is taken to promote both inward investment and the indigenous small and medium-sized sector and to ensure that training and skills are offered as a matter of urgency to affected Seagate employees and others in the North West of Northern Ireland in the face of a potentially devastating economic body blow, the pro-rata equivalent of almost a 10,000 job loss in the Belfast area.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
