Hearing Induction Loops On The Parliamentary Estate
EDM number 1191 in 2007-08, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 13/03/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Equality and Parliament.
That this House is concerned that the House of Commons Banqueting Department is currently unable to provide the free hire of hearing induction loops in all its facilities; notes that the cost of £192 plus VAT required to hire equipment for an event is prohibitively expensive and restricts equal access to the Houses of Parliament for deaf and hard of hearing people; recognises the benefits to Parliament, hon. Members and their visitors if the Department were to make a single purchase of a portable induction loop, available for use in all dining rooms and venues; and calls on Parliament to set an example to private venues and external companies by offering these services without cost in the interests of engaging deaf and hard of hearing visitors visiting the Parliamentary Estate.
