Pig Industry

EDM number 1158 in 2007-08, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 11/03/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Agriculture, Farmers and International trade.

That this House notes the difficulties faced by the UK pig industry; recognises that in the last few years cheap imports of pig meat from abroad have undermined the British pig industry and that the costs of production in the UK have risen markedly as UK farmers have had to comply with welfare legislation that is not in force elsewhere; and urges the Government to support the UK pig industry through its procurement policy and in particular to ensure that the armed forces purchase meat reared in the UK.

This motion has been signed by a total of 57 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
