That this House congratulates The Prostate Cancer Charity, the largest UK voluntary organisation focused on prostate cancer, on commissioning and publishing during Prostate Cancer Awareness Week a poll on the state of public awareness of the basics of the prostate gland and prostate cancer; notes with concern that two thirds of UK men do not understand the crucial role the gland plays in a man's sexual function, almost three quarters of African Caribbean men do not know the function of the prostate gland and 85 per cent. of African Caribbean men are unaware of their heightened risk of prostate cancer; recognises the vital importance of raising urgently the level of public awareness of prostate cancer, particularly amongst African Caribbean communities; calls on the Government to launch in partnership with the voluntary sector a prostate cancer awareness campaign; and welcomes The Prostate Cancer Charity's innovative awareness programmes, its high quality website, its printed literature and its nurse led helpline designed to equip men to make informed choices about prostate health and prostate cancer treatment options.
