Winter Fuel Allowances For Families With Disabled Children
EDM number 1144 in 2007-08, proposed by Alan Meale on 10/03/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Incomes and poverty, Sickness, disability and carers' benefits and Utilities.
That this House acknowledges the Every Disabled Child Matters campaign to secure from the Government a budgetary commitment to pilot a scheme to give winter fuel allowances to UK families with disabled children; notes evidence from research that shows two thirds of families in this category struggle to pay their fuel bills in the winter-time due to rising fuel costs and the need to maintain constant home temperature levels to ward off infections and bouts of restricted mobility caused directly by cold conditions; and calls upon the Government to respond positively to the campaign which would both relieve hardship and suffering whilst helping to lift up to 40,000 vulnerable families out of poverty.
