Sri Lanka (No. 2)

EDM number 955 in 2006-07, proposed by Edward Davey on 22/02/2007.

That this House notes the breakdown of the 2002 ceasefire in Sri Lanka; condemns all acts of violence, especially those against the civilian population; urges all sides to end the hostilities, allow the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission access to all affected areas and resume peace talks; calls on the Sri Lankan government to take the initiative and remove one of the key obstacles to prospects for success at the Geneva talks last year by fully re-opening the A9 land route to the Jaffna peninsula for the food and medical supplies which are needed there to prevent a humanitarian disaster; urges the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam to respond immediately and peacefully to such an initiative; and calls on the UK Government to work more urgently with the international community to support the work of the Norwegian facilitators and to apply maximum pressure on all involved to end the violence.

This motion has been signed by a total of 41 MPs.
