Advertising And Gun Culture
EDM number 92 in 2006-07, proposed by Tony Lloyd on 15/11/2006.
That this House is astonished by the decision of the sportswear company Puma to introduce a range of trainers glamorising guns; notes that the `Bonnie and Clyde' trainers have a picture of a submachine gun on the heel instead of the company motif; joins with anti-gun campaigners such as Manchester-based Mothers Against Violence in their call for these products to be withdrawn from sale; advises parents and concerned individuals to bombard the company with their protests, which in the past has persuaded companies like Reebok to withdraw controversial gun-culture supporting products from the market; and suggests to the company that it should change its marketing advisors and issue an apology for seeking to put profit before the real concerns that the gun culture is destructive of life and community value.
