School Buses

EDM number 569 in 2006-07, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 08/01/2007.

That this House notes that under the Education Act 1944 local education authorities have a statutory obligation to cover the cost of bus travel for children living more than three miles from the nearest school; further notes that this law is outdated due to changes in society, increasing road traffic, child safety issues and a growing need to encourage children to use public transport rather than travelling in cars; and calls on the Government to remove the three mile limit and to ensure that funds are available to allow local education authorities to bus children to school from wherever they live.

This motion has been signed by a total of 35 MPs.
