Christmas City Bonuses
EDM number 540 in 2006-07, proposed by John McDonnell on 19/12/2006.
That this House notes that city bonuses this Christmas are estimated to be £9 billion, with over 4,000 city workers receiving over £1 million each; further notes that the work of the Tax Justice Network that shows the UK tax gap is between £90 to £154 billion due to tax avoidance by wealthy individuals and companies; is disappointed that wealth inequality has continued to widen in the last decade; and therefore urges the Government to impose a windfall tax on city Christmas bonuses.
This motion has been signed by a total of 36 MPs.
