Party Funding And The Trade Union Link To The Labour Party
EDM number 487 in 2006-07, proposed by John McDonnell on 13/12/2006.
That this House is extremely concerned at the reported proposals of the Hayden Phillips inquiry into party funding; notes that these proposals would break the democratic and historic link between the Labour Party and the trade unions, which founded the Labour Party; further notes that the inquiry into party funding was established because of concerns about loans from business people, and that trade union funding is openly and democratically decided upon by millions of individual members; and therefore calls upon the Government to reject proposals which would destroy the democratic constitution of the Labour Party.
