That this House warmly welcomes the appointment of Mr George Iacovou as the new High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus to the United Kingdom; notes that Mr Iacovou has had a long and very distinguished career in Greek Cypriot politics, his most recent position being that of Foreign Minister for the Republic of Cyprus, in which he played a most active role in Cyprus's application for membership of the European Union; believes that Mr Iacovou's appointment as the Cyprus High Commissioner will give the opportunity to work with the British Government to strengthen relations between the two countries; and looks to the British Government to work with him to achieve these objectives for the benefits of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Cyprus.
