Flammability And Beds
EDM number 414 in 2006-07, proposed by Madeleine Moon on 06/12/2006.
That this House calls on the Government to remove the anomaly which allows beds described as medical devices to be supplied to a consumer even if they do not comply with the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988; notes that it is an offence for domestic beds to be supplied in the UK if they contain fillings which do not comply with the 1988 Regulations; and urges the Government to adopt a zero tolerance approach to the apparent breach of the 1988 Regulations in respect of imported foam mattresses, to remind retailers of their obligations to stock safe products, and to consider the option of developing a clearly identifiable logo to indicate full legal compliance and requiring retailers to affirm their compliance with the flammability regulations on all products, including any mattresses required as medical devices.
