National Rail Timetable
EDM number 38 in 2006-07, proposed by Linda Riordan on 15/11/2006.
That this House notes with regret the decision by Network Rail to scrap a printed copy of the National Rail Timetable from 2007; further notes that a national rail timetable covering every service in the country has been printed since the Bradshaw's timetable was introduced in 1839; regrets that the decision will mean that for the first time in decades a printed copy of the timetable will not be available; further notes that the timetable was not only available to buy but was also housed in public libraries throughout the country to enable people to plan their rail journeys; believes that this is a retrograde step that will adversely affect many people who use the rail network; and calls for this short-sighted decision to be reversed so that the much needed and much used national timetable can continue in its current printed form for many years to come to the benefit of both rail passengers and staff.
