EDM number 37 in 2006-07, proposed by Linda Riordan on 15/11/2006.
That this House praises the Remploy workforce for its dedication and commitment to the valuable work it does; further praises the GMB Union for its campaign to protect jobs in Remploy factories; notes how successful Remploy has been in employing people with disabilities in local communities; is concerned that many Remploy factories across the UK face an uncertain future; calls on the Minister for Disabled People to make a statement in the House committing the Government to protecting jobs in Remploy factories; and further calls for improved dialogue between management, workers and the unions to reassure Remploy employees that their jobs are not under threat and to ensure that Remploy factories are given the opportunity to operate long into the future.
