Restitution Of Art Looted By The Nazis
EDM number 314 in 2006-07, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 27/11/2006.
That this House expresses its concern that an unfortunate consequence of the Tribunals, Courts and Enforcement Bill is to deny the rightful owners of works of art looted by the Nazis the opportunity of recovering their works of art, if they are loaned by an overseas owner to a UK institution for a temporary exhibition; welcomes the Government's previous commitment to right the wrongs of the Nazi era; believes that the Bill entirely contradicts that commitment; and urges the Government to bring forward amendments to the Bill to enable those works of art to be returned, after due process, to those who can show good title to their ownership.
