Justice For Krista Ocloo
EDM number 259 in 2006-07, proposed by Sarah Teather on 22/11/2006.
That this House notes the tenth anniversary of the death of Krista Ocloo from acute heart failure on 5th December 2006; regrets that 10 years on there has still been no inquiry to establish independently the facts concerning Krista's death; applauds the ongoing campaign of Josephine Ocloo to win justice for her daughter; supports her call for an independent inquiry; further welcomes the NHS Redress Act 2006 which aims to give patients and relatives speedier access to justice and compensation when mistakes are made; believes, however, the Act to be fundamentally flawed in that it will not deliver the type of independent investigations that are crucial to guaranteeing fairness and credibility while ending acrimonious litigation that benefits no-one; and urges the Government to introduce an independent NHS scrutiny body which would make justice for Krista Ocloo and other victims of medical negligence possible.
