British Airways Regional Closures And Treatment Of Staff
EDM number 222 in 2006-07, proposed by Gordon Marsden on 21/11/2006.
That this House deplores the closure by British Airways (BA) of its cabin crew base in Manchester and also its proposals to do similarly in Glasgow; notes that the company has completely failed to offer any justification other than simplification and carried out an inadequate consultation with employees and union representatives; further notes that BA is now trying to force staff to go on relocation courses immediately despite verbal assurances to the contrary, thus adding to pressures on a long-serving workforce, many with dependent relatives and children, who will find the enforced relocation to Heathrow traumatic, especially in the run-up to Christmas; and believes that BA's complete failure to observe family-friendly policies, together with their regional cabin crew closures and sale of BA Connect, utterly undermines their credibility as a UK-wide national airline.
