Squash In My Cab Campaign
EDM number 2082 in 2006-07, proposed by Alan Simpson on 10/10/2007.
That this House welcomes the Squash in My Cab campaign by ASLEF, the train drivers' union, to improve working conditions for train drivers' cabs so they are Safe, Quiet, User-friendly, Aired, Specially-seated and Healthy; notes that temperatures in drivers' cabs have exceeded 38 degrees Celsius for entire shifts and that this poses health and safety risks; further notes that unlike in most offices, many train drivers' seats are not adjustable and that there is evidence of drivers' hearing loss due to single high-volume noise or regular whines; and therefore calls on rail companies to invest in drivers' cabs for the health and safety of train drivers and passengers and on the Department for Transport to ensure that every franchise that it authorises includes a specific commitment to satisfactory cab conditions.
