Furniture Safety

EDM number 2027 in 2006-07, proposed by Madeleine Moon on 26/07/2007.

That this House recognises that all furniture sold for domestic use within the UK must comply with the UK Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988, which require that the furniture fabric and fillings pass the cigarette test and the match test and be labelled accordingly; notes that, at a conservative estimate, the Regulations have saved at least 710 lives, 1,860 when additional factors are taken into consideration and prevented at least 5,770 injuries between 1988 and 1997; congratulates the Government on the progress made and believes that greater public awareness would help to ensure that all furniture continues to meet the UK's strict requirements ensuring more lives are saved.

This motion has been signed by a total of 53 MPs.
