Thamesmead 40th Anniversary

EDM number 1974 in 2006-07, proposed by John Austin on 23/07/2007.

That this House notes the 40th anniversary of the new town of Thamesmead, situated on the Thames marshes in the London boroughs of Greenwich and Bexley; sends its best wishes to its residents and businesses; congratulates Tilfen Land, which has established an enviable position operating at the heart of one of Europe's most important regeneration areas; welcomes completion of phase one of the White Hart Triangle business park which, when completed, will deliver over one million square feet of industrial, commercial and office space on a 52 acre site and up to 200 jobs; notes that Gallions Housing Association, the major social housing provider in Thamesmead, is leading the redevelopment of Tavy Bridge, one of the most ambitious regeneration projects in the Thames Gateway; congratulates Gallions on the construction of its ecopark, an environmentally sustainable housing development featuring 39 houses for affordable rent, designed specifically to reduce energy and water consumption and running costs for residents, which were developed at no additional cost in comparison to standard new build; congratulates Trust Thamesmead, a unique community development agency providing extensive community services and facilities, which organised the 40th anniversary community festival and celebrations; further welcomes the close co-operation of these agencies and the partnerships with both boroughs, the police and other service providers; and looks forward to the town continuing to grow and prosper.
