Actions Of Customs Officers
EDM number 1966 in 2006-07, proposed by Keith Vaz on 19/07/2007.
That this House criticises the decision of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) for impounding the car and its contents of Mr Falali-Tamouth on a return journey from Belgium; notes that Mr Falali-Tamouth returned with a number of cigarettes and other items as allowed under the law; criticises the internal review by HMRC which supported the original decision to impound the car; condemns the lack of proper explanation given by HMRC in its decision to impound the car; and believes that this case is indicative of the arbitrary and unaccountable way in which Her Majesty's customs officers can conduct themselves.
