Low Pay In The National Museums In Liverpool
EDM number 1958 in 2006-07, proposed by Robert N Wareing on 19/07/2007.
That this House values the commitment of hard-working staff in the nation's galleries, heritage sites and museums; is concerned about the low rates of pay in the national museums in Liverpool with staff salaries at least £2,000 per annum less than colleagues in other museums and galleries in the city; is appalled that the organisation prides itself on being a low pay employer that submits below inflation salary increase business cases to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS)when low-paying employers are allowed through the Treasury rules to submit higher value business cases to bring pay in line with other employers; is further appalled that staff have been offered a settlement for 2007 that is well below inflation at 1.8 per cent. and that the offer for 2008 during Liverpool's year in the spotlight as the European capital of culture is 1.3 per cent; and therefore calls on the DCMS to arrange an urgent meeting with the union and management to rectify the low pay situation and value staff for the valuable public service they offer.
