Alcohol Advertising Age Restrictions

EDM number 1930 in 2006-07, proposed by Lynda Waltho on 17/07/2007.

That this House believes that broadcast alcohol advertising should have a 9 pm watershed restriction and not be permitted to be shown in cinemas before films with a certificate below 18; is deeply concerned with the growing social and health harms through increased under-age alcohol consumption; acknowledges the effect that alcohol can have on the chance of an individual becoming a victim or perpetrator of violent crime; considers that under-age exposure to the promotion of alcohol is more dangerous than exposure to fast-foods; and recognises that the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, the British Heart Foundation, Alcohol Concern, the Royal College of Physicians and the British Medical Association, amongst others, support greater restriction on broadcast alcohol advertising and that the Government's consultations announced in Safe. Sensible. Social: the next steps in the National Alcohol Strategy represent a significant opportunity for the Government to take a lead on this subject.

This motion has been signed by a total of 54 MPs.
