Lord Black Of Crossharbour
EDM number 1929 in 2006-07, proposed by Harry Cohen on 17/07/2007.
That this House notes the criminal conviction for fraud offences of Lord Black of Crossharbour; considers that he should forfeit his peerage and right to sit in the House of Lords; further notes the inconsistency between regular forfeiture of honours by individuals who have committed criminal offences and rare forfeiture by peers, even when they have been convicted of major criminal offences such as multi-million pound fraud; further notes that there is machinery within government to advise the Sovereign on the forfeiture of honours, but that it either does not apply, or does not apply properly or consistently with that for honours forfeiture with regard to criminal peers; and calls for a consistent and transparent policy to apply to the forfeiture of both honours and peerages and for Lord Black to have his peerage removed as a consequence of his fraudulent activities.
