Criminal Justice And Immigration

EDM number 1907 in 2006-07, proposed by Neil Gerrard on 12/07/2007.

That this House expresses its concern over some of the proposals of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill introduced on 26th June 2007; notes that NAPO estimates that breaches of the proposed Violent Offender Order could alone add 3,000 to the prison population per year; believes that there is a danger that this bill will lead to further prison overcrowding potentially increasing the prison population by 4,000 a year without fully tackling the problems faced by the criminal justice system; and therefore urges the Government to consult staff within the service in order to address these concerns regarding the Bill.

This motion has been signed by a total of 17 MPs.
