Graffiti And Compulsory Restorative Justice
EDM number 1874 in 2006-07, proposed by James Duddridge on 09/07/2007.
That this House believes that graffiti is a blight to local environments, damages local relationships and provides a long-term reminder of anti-social behaviour that has a profound effect on communities; notes that graffiti is a form of criminal damage; further notes with concern that graffiti costs the British economy millions of pounds every year; further believes that taggers should directly redress the damage they have done to the community by cleaning up the mess they have made and meeting the victims of their crime; further believes that in doing so offenders will realise the true cost of their behaviour; and calls for the introduction of compulsory restorative sentencing for individuals who create graffiti.
