Repression Of Labour Activists In Iran
EDM number 1846 in 2006-07, proposed by John McDonnell on 04/07/2007.
That this House notes with great concern the increase in repression against labour activists attempting to set up independent trade unions in Iran; further notes that Mahmoud Salehi, the leader of the Bakers' Union in Saghez (Iranian Kurdistan), has not only been imprisoned for his trade union activities, but despite having just one kidney is being denied vital medical treatment; urges the Iranian government to release Mr Salehi and to revoke the sentence passed against him for his trade union activities; and calls upon the UK Government to press the Iranian government to respect trade union rights and International Labour Organisation conventions.
