Competition Within The Eu
EDM number 1823 in 2006-07, proposed by Harry Cohen on 03/07/2007.
That this House notes the new European Union protocol on promoting competition and reducing distortions within the EU single market area; believes that such a protocol will not be effective unless it enables, and enforces, the abolition of geographical monopoly trademarks, such as champagne wine or parmesan cheese, prevents corrupt payments within the arms trade, abolishes agricultural subsidies and tariffs, allows free movement across internal EU borders and breaks up media conglomerates and near-monopolies in other sectors; and further believes that the unrestrained promotion of competition policy will create further opportunities for tax evasion and money-laundering and restrict the potential for the development of vital measures on the protection of the environment and the tackling of climate change.
