ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY'S PARLIAMENTARY LINKS DAY

That this House congratulates the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) on holding its Parliamentary Links Day at this House on Tuesday 26th June on the theme of Earth Air Fire Water: Science and the Global Challenge; welcomes the Society's continuing commitment to serve the public interest by improving the access of all hon. Members to scientific information and a better understanding of science; notes the keynote address by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs; notes that other speakers included Professor Jim Feast, President of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Sir Christopher Llewellyn Smith, the Institute of Physics, Dr Laura Bellingan, the Institute of Biology, Lord Rees of Ludlow, President of the Royal Society, Dr Sue Ion, Vice-President of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Dr Peter Cotgreave, Director of the CaSE and Dr Richard Pike and Dr Jeff Hardy from the RSC; notes the participation of the hon. Member for Rutland and Melton, Shadow Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, the hon. Member for Harrogate and Knaresborough, Chair of the Select Committee on Science and Technology and Sir David King, Government Chief Scientific Adviser; notes that Parliamentary Links Day is an established and respected event on the annual Parliamentary calendar; notes that the Royal Society of Chemistry's pioneering Parliamentary Link Scheme, pairing scientists with Members, is open to Right hon. Members and hon. Members on all sides of the House; and welcomes the continuing contribution that Parliamentary Links Day makes to strengthening the dialogue between Parliament and the science and engineering community.
