UK Arms Exportation
EDM number 1587 in 2006-07, proposed by Diane Abbott on 04/06/2007.
That this House is appalled by the UK's continued involvement in exporting or allowing the export of arms to countries around the world; regrets that the UK is the second largest arms exporter in the world, and that under the current Government military equipment and services totalling over £45 billion has passed through the UK; regrets that the UK has in the past few years ignored EU arms embargoes and licensed military equipment to China; regrets that the Government has been reluctant to monitor the final destinations of these arms and that at times they have been used by countries with poor human rights records; and calls on the Government to stop relenting to the arms industry and put in place stronger restrictions on the exportation of arms during the Export Control Act review.
