Royal Air Force And Turtlewatch Akrotiri
EDM number 1578 in 2006-07, proposed by Andrew Rosindell on 24/05/2007.
That this House commends the exceptional work of the Royal Air Force in Akrotiri on the island of Cyprus within the British Sovereign Base Area and Overseas Territory of the United Kingdom in the vital defence of the UK's strategic interests in the region; recognises the magnificent work of RAF volunteers and the important contribution they are making to `TurtleWatch', a local conservation project that seeks to protect the indigenous turtle populations of Cyprus through the vital birthing period; further acknowledges that without the intervention of the RAF in helping maintain a safe TurtleWatch programme, the Green and Loggerhead turtles that inhabit the island would undoubtedly fall victim to poaching and predators and gives its wholehearted support to the continued success of this project; and commends all those RAF personnel who have made this initiative possible.
