Nuclear Free Future For Wales

EDM number 1566 in 2006-07, proposed by Jenny Willott on 24/05/2007.

That this House believes that Wales can be a leader in the development and deployment of clean green technologies and renewable energy generation and that building a new generation of nuclear power stations would divert essential funding away from reaching this goal; is deeply concerned that the two nuclear power stations in Wales will generate 150,000 cubic metres of nuclear waste by the time they are fully decommissioned and that there is no plan in place on how to dispose of this waste; and calls on the Government not to develop new nuclear power stations in Wales but to focus its energy and investment towards the development of the full range of renewable energy resources, microgeneration technologies and energy efficient buildings and equipment in Wales.
