LOBBYING CAMPAIGN BY THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA AGAINST THE DALAI LAMA

EDM number 1451 in 2006-07, proposed by Lynne Jones on 14/05/2007.

That this House notes the news reports that the Nobel Peace Prize winner the Dalai Lama has cancelled a trip to Belgium to attend a gathering of Tibetan groups in Brussels; understands that the Belgian government contacted the Dalai Lama after it was put under pressure from the People's Republic of China; is concerned that this is part of an aggressive lobbying campaign by the Chinese regime against the Dalai Lama due to its opposition to Tibetan independence; and calls on the UK Government to register concern with the Chinese authorities.

This motion has been signed by a total of 55 MPs.
