Train Horns (No. 2)
EDM number 1360 in 2006-07, proposed by Derek Wyatt on 26/04/2007.
That this House welcomes the changes which the rail industry has recently announced concerning the use of train horns at night; notes that from now on trains will no longer routinely sound their horns between the hours of 11pm and 7am at the various whistleboards situated at many footpath crossings; recognises that these changes, which were initially mooted by interested parliamentarians, were then taken forward as an industry-wide initiative led by Network Rail and including train operating companies, and the Rail Safety and Standards Board, all of whom assessed the impact of train horns on the health and well-being of trackside neighbours; calls on the industry to ensure that drivers receive the necessary education, training and support to comply with the changes; urges the whole rail industry to work together to implement the changes; and applauds this constructive approach to a problem which will hopefully lead to improvements in the quality of life for many people living near the railways.
