First Un Global Road Safety Week 23rd To 29th April 2007
EDM number 1269 in 2006-07, proposed by Bob Russell on 16/04/2007.
That this House welcomes the first United Nations (UN) Global Road Safety Week, which acknowledges road safety as a development issue with road deaths predicted to double in low income countries over the next 15 years; appreciates the achievements of the charity group RoadPeace in putting the problems of road death and injury on both the UK and international agendas, including through its representation of road crash victims on the UN and World Health Organisation Road Safety Working Groups, its promotion of evidence based interventions to reduce the impact on lives and the environment, such as black boxes in vehicles, and its work to stop crashes being tolerated as `accidents', instead of the avoidable events that they are, too many of which involve criminal behaviour; and calls on the Government to support the aims of UN Global Road Safety Week.
