London Challenge And Field Visits
EDM number 1149 in 2006-07, proposed by Andrew Love on 15/03/2007.
That this House acknowledges the important role of the London Challenge in increasing educational attainment across London; notes that the number of secondary schools with more than 55 per cent. of their students achieving five or more A*-C grades at GCSE increased from 142 to 195 between 2001 and 2006; welcomes the fact that GCSE results in the five key boroughs improved on average by eight percentage points (over twice the national average); congratulates head teachers, teachers and pupils on their hard work; particularly welcomes the London Student Pledge, which offers all pupils in London the opportunity of an educational visit or overnight stay; notes that as a direct result nine out of 10 schools, or more than 24,000 pupils, have been able to enjoy education outside the classroom; notes the very positive impact of these visits on learning, personal development and families; and congratulates the Field Studies Council in successfully co-ordinating the field visits aspect of the London Challenge.
