Brain Tumour Awareness Month
EDM number 1075 in 2006-07, proposed by John Bercow on 08/03/2007.
That this House supports Brain Tumour Awareness Month; congratulates the efforts of UK brain tumour charities in highlighting issues surrounding brain tumour care and research; notes with concern that brain tumours account for two per cent. of cancers but that research into brain tumours is desperately underfunded; is disturbed that brain tumours have become the biggest single disease killing children; acknowledges that survival rates have not increased in line with the rate for childhood leukaemia or some other adult cancers; applauds the work of scientists and clinicians; further notes that NHS expenditure on brain tumour patients is well below that devoted to other cancers; recognises the problems faced by brain tumour patients in accessing treatment; calls for improved NHS funding and care, including improved access to radiotherapy and rehabilitation services; and further calls for greater and fairer access to treatments.
