Fair Trade For British Farming Campaign

EDM number 1074 in 2006-07, proposed by Roger Williams on 08/03/2007.

That this House congratulates the Farmers' Guardian, Country Living Magazine and Waitrose on initiating the campaign Fair Trade for British Farming, the aim of which is to promote a fair and sustainable price for the high quality food produced by British farmers; notes that most British consumers wrongly believe that the principles of fair trade are applied to British agriculture; acknowledges that over the last 10 years British farmers' income has fallen by eight per cent. whilst that of major retailers has increased by four thousand per cent.; recognises the important contribution British farming makes to the food supply, protecting the countryside, rural employment and combating climate change; and welcomes the newly launched petition on the Farmers' Guardian website which will give the opportunity to all hon. Members to register their support for the campaign.

This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
