Training And Social Exclusion
EDM number 1056 in 2006-07, proposed by Dawn Butler on 07/03/2007.
That this House believes that employment and skills training is key to helping those at risk from the deepest and most persistent forms of exclusion; notes with concern the research from the London Voluntary Sector Training Consortium which found that 88 per cent. of respondent organisations delivering employment and skills training in London will be adversely affected by the funding gap between the 2000 to 2006 and 2007 to 2013 European Social Fund (ESF) rounds; further notes with alarm that of the 82 respondent organisations responsible for 204 projects providing skills training in London, 73 per cent. are likely to make redundancies as a result of the lack of immediate ESF funding; welcomes the campaign by St Mungo's, London's largest homeless organisation, highlighting the severity of this issue; and urges on the Government to provide shadow funding to fill the ESF funding gap and save vital work and learning projects for socially excluded people.
